Exposed! Why Resolutions Don't Last

Are you thinking about next year? So many of us are totally over 2020 and ready for a fresh start!

I love taking this week between Christmas and New Year's as a time to reflect. What do I want to take with me from 2020? What do I want more of in the coming year. What do I want my life to look like 1 year from now? What daily habits will get me there?

I remember getting a phone call from my friend way back in 2013.

She said, "I'm adding in 2 habits. Do you want to do it with me?" Well, I had been carrying around some extra "baby" weight (for like 5 years!!!) and her habits sounded like something I could definately do. Also, she said we were doing it for 1 month and I love a quick sprint versus a long marathon. I couldn't have guessed that yes would mean so many benefits for me! First she invited me to take a picture. I did AND I vowed never to post a pic of myself in spandex on the internet. I am sharing it here because I want to you know you can do it too! Those 2 changes snowballed into more: better cravings, more energy, less mom-brain. Yes, I let go of 2 dress sizes, but my favorite part: I have kept it off ever since. I don't do diets. This is a lifestyle that I can do and fits into our busy lives. You don't have to become a juicing vegan (not that that's a bad thing!) this is for real people like you and me!

Let's get back to why resolutions. It's great to reflect. And not going to lie, goal setting is my jam. But, did you know that only 25% of people stay committed to their resolutions after January? And only 8% keep their resolutions. Wow! What's up with that?

I'm so glad you asked! I've got the success tips to keep beat the statistics! #1: Get a buddy (or an accountability group). Going it alone is so much harder! If healthy living is on your list, click here to get more details on how to join our January group! We know we are better together! #2: Expectations: Thinking you will loose 10 lbs in 10 days? Thinking you are going to work out every day of 2021? Not likely. Small decisions made consistently over time DO have big results. They don't happen overnight.

#3: Unexpected: Accidentally fall face first into a plate of french fries? Don't give up! Dust yourself off and do better next time. Perfection isn't required and don't quit just because you had a setback. Plan for what you will do when the set backs come because they will.

#4: Got a plan?: The goals we want to achieve take time and often money. Are you ready to invest on yourself to get where you want to go?

#5: Motivation: Why do you want to do this? How will you feel when you arrive at your goal? What will it look like? Really close your eyes and play a mental movie. It is playing with the kids without feeling breathless? Is it shopping for jeans and loving the reflection? Get a picture in your mind and share it with your buddy. Put it on your mirror.

2021 is your year! It's your time! If you're ready to make those resolutions stick, let's chat!

Or leave a comment for accountability with one of your resolutions! The more we say it, the more we believe in ourselves!
