Who Loves Soup?

Cooler temperatures, falling leaves. It's time to make soup!

I'll admit, I didn't love soup for a long time. Somehow I got it in my head that soup was food you ate when sick, and I wasn't sick, so no soup. My hubby on the other hand, loves soup. All soup. And so I added into our menu repertoire.

My mother is a stellar soup maker. I grew up with these soups that materialized out of whatever was left in the fridge and they were amazing. She would say, "If you like it I'm sorry, I'll never be able to duplicate that recipe again. If you didn't like it, the good news is, you'll never have to eat it again (at least after its all gone)".

So I learned how to boil bones and make my own stock. Fascinating now that bone broth seems to be the latest trend in healthy living. My friend Brandy has a great chicken stock recipe. We freeze it in quart bags and even freeze some in muffin tins for when you just need a little for sauteeing. I am excited to use my new pressure cooker for the turkey bones this Thanksgiving. If you've done that, I'd love to hear your tips in the comments!

My favorite fall soup is this Autumn Squash recipe.

If you're local in Springfield, check out our soup swap on December 13. Please RSVP.
